Well we finally got to take you to Bay To Breakers! We've been waiting a long time for this, it only comes once a year and has to be one of the craziest events in an already crazy town.First we dressed you up in the unicorn outfit your Grandma Suzanne gave you, and, I hate to say it, you are SO CUTE! You seemed to like it just fine, and little did you know how well you'd fit in. Do you know what Bay To Breakers is?
Before we got to the race, first we had to park and that wasn't easy. But your mom found us a spot where she always finds us a spot, and we got you unloaded and into the new SUV stroller. Right off the bat you knew you were in for a good time...
Bay To Breakers is the largest footrace in North America. It is just that most people don't race in it. It is a zoo. MOST people are in costumes, and you can see Elvis, monkeys, gladiators, rollergirls, bumblebees, and all sorts of other outfits. Many people are part of a team, which involve elablorate costumes, floats, and of course lots of booze. Bay to Breakers is not something for the faint of heart, or the sober!
It is more like a gigantic parade full of crazy people in halloween costumes. 60,000 of them register, but the overall crowd is about 200,000 or so. And everyone is friendly. And they behave, well, you have to appreciate upside-down moving keg stands while wearing purple tights. It is not something you see every day, because it is not something you do every day. Even in San Francsico.
I think the look on your face pretty much sums it up. HOLY COW! LOOK AT THESE CRAZY PEOPLE! CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?!? No, you couldn't believe it. But you liked the bands, and the people, and the costumes, and everything about it. In fact, you really seemed to be in your element. Uh oh... What have we started? I think she might like this a little too much.
Bart and Katie went with us. Debbie, of course, went to her office to work instead, because she's crazy like that. Lots of people thought you were the cutest one - they were even stopping us to take pictures! We finally got one picture of us all together, just before it ended. Uncle Reverand Bart and Aunt Katie took good care of us, and we sure had a good time looking at all the silly people!
I'm in Japan on vacation just checking mail and stuff before we head out.. but I had to say HOLY CRAP, your kid is cute.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure that incredulous look on her face on that one picture was *not* unwarranted by any means.
