A Little Vacation - New Buffalo

We had been housebound for weeks, always doing something or other with the house, the yard, the garage, it was always something. Mom had been reading up on the places we could go, and New Buffalo, Michigan made it to the top of the list. So we made a hotel reservation, packed up the car, and got out of dodge early on Friday afternoon. Rain was forecast all weekend, so we had low expectations of beach and outside time...

When we got there, we were immediately happy. The hotel was great, very close to both downtown and the beach, and it looked like there would be plenty to do for all of us. Starting with ICE CREAM!!

We were in this ice cream place that was just packed full of pigs, old cans and bottles and signs, and more pigs. Pretty cute, really, but a lot of stuff to take in. We were missing the SLR in this place for sure!

Back at the hotel you were very focused on what you called "Making a Flyer". I don't know what that means, really, but it involved getting nekked, piling all the pillows from the whole room in the middle of a bed, and getting into them.

Next day - rainy, a little cold, time to bundle up in your rain gear and see what New Buffalo had to offer up besides the beach!

Grandpa Dick would have loved the hot rods who came by the gas station as we were getting filled up. Car People are everywhere...

After some antique shopping and cruising around, we noticed something... The rain had stopped! Quick, quick, head to the beach! It isn't like we aren't used to being a little chilly at the beach, after all we've had 7 years of that!

I love this picture because it highlights your enthusiasm for the water. At this moment your mom is holding on for dear life, and you are on an all-out charge to get as far into the water as fast as you can. Feet not even touching the sand, this little girl is going swimming darnit!

Within seconds, you were nekked and far deeper into the water than mom was prepared to facilitate. So I took a turn, rolled up my jeans as far as they would go, and headed in. Hey, check out all those seagulls!!

It was a very nice, albeit small beach. Reminded me a lot of Half Moon Bay, back in California. But the water was much warmer, and there was a much easier time parking!

I've got to hand it to Mom for getting this picture. See, she hates birds. Has this phobia about being attacked. So when we were running at her across the beach, and there were several hundred seagulls between us, there was bound to be trouble. Made for a great picture though!

Seriously, you and your mom are the nicest looking ladies in town!

Ok, that's it for part 1. Part 2 is heading more around town and some serious shopping time, after we get warmed up from the beach! More to come...
